 2022 Preview

Central completed the 2021 season with a 13-1 record. The Red Devils cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Central captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 7A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. The Red Devils won three consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 7A State Championship game in 2021 only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Thompson at the Alabama Super Seven 38-22 in Birmingham.

The 586 points scored by the Red Devils last year were a team record in a single season. The Red Devils hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Nix saw improvement as they won thirteen games following a 8-5 record in 2020.

The high-scoring Central Phenix City offense ranked 13th in the AHSAA. They averaged 41.9 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Red Devils have gone 21-6 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Central has gone a combined 120-30. Their 80.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 7A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Central has gone a combined 222-74. Their 75.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 7A and 14th in the AHSAA. The Red Devils have been successful on the football field with twenty-four winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2008.

The Red Devils are led by head coach Patrick Nix who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 21-6 over the past two seasons at Central. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Nix.

Coach Nix's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 87-28 (75.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Nix's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won four region championships. Coach Nix won two state championships prior to arriving at Central, the last coming in 2018 at Pinson Valley.

This may be the best squad for Coach Nix since arriving in Phenix City. The Red Devils are primed for a return trip to Birmingham in 2022.

The Central Red Devils will play in Class 7A region two during the 2022 season. The Red Devils have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 71-41 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 7A and 17th in the AHSAA.

The Red Devils enter the 2022 season riding a 10 game regular season winning streak. Central has won 6 consecutive region games. They have won 9 straight games on their home turf at Garrett-Harrison Stadium.

While most teams rebuild during the off season, Central has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Red Devils enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region two and could very well be representing the South in the Class 7A Super Seven come December. The Red Devils have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2013 and this year should be no exception.

The Red Devils open the 2022 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent Hewitt-Trussville on Friday, August 19 at . Last year the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in third place in Class 7A region three.
